A unique trophy unveiled in Stalin Line

updated on 15/12/2012

A German-made self-propelled gun dating back to the Great Patriotic war years has just been repaired and used in a reenactment at the Stalin Line complex.

Up to the date only a few WWII museums in the world could boast of an anti-tank self-propelled Stug-3 gun. In spite of their mass production - a total of 10 000 were manufactured - not a single one can be found in Germany. And nowadays one of these machines will be used in Stalin Line historic reenactments.

The gun was recovered near Mstislavl, Mogilev Region, in 2009. The researchers established that the gun was used in the action against the Red Army in 1943 and then ditched in a lake. The recovery team managed to spot and recover the machine while restoration people even managed to preserve its camouflage. Dark yellow color indicates that originally the gun had taken part in the Rommel's desert campaign before it was moved to the Eastern Front, towards its inglorious end in Belarus.
